Role Purpose:

You will be responsible for Coordinating the application, maintenance, and review of Best's Rating Methodology (BRM) and the related criteria procedures within rating analytic. In addition, you will be expected to provide technical guidance to the EMEA analytical teams, particularly as it pertains to rating methodology and criteria and its application.

With your extended knowledge and experience you will develop yourself to the position where you are sitting with the Corporate Rating Policy Committee (CRPC) and therefore become an official member. CRPC ensures the necessary practices, policies, and procedures to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements related to Best's Rating Methodology related items are in place.

This role is based in Amsterdam where you will work together with approximately ten other driven specialists, primarily focused on analysis providing financial strength ratings to the insurance industry within the European market. The role will also entail close collaboration and interaction with criteria staff based in the London office.

Responsibilities:

Criteria

· Lead methodology reviews on criteria procedures linked to the EU/London/Asia offices and complete all necessary documentation related to the reviews.

· Assist in planning process for annual methodology reviews and other Criteria related projects.

· Function as a conduit for identifying and proposing developments in rating criteria to CRPC.

· Offer insight into any unique elements of the EU and London insurance markets which need to be factored into methodology reviews.

· Assist local compliance with any regulatory related inquiries related to BRM.

· Update the company on relevant industry trends and market intelligence in core European and emerging insurance credit markets.

· Undertake analysis of data at a market level across various sectors and geographies to identify trends as a backdrop for company level analytics and as an input to rating methodology and criteria.

· Provide support on accounting/regulatory issues such as IFRS 17 and their potential impact on capital models and rating tools.

· Contribute to benchmarking efforts, analysing the consistency of rating assignments and the application of rating approaches.

· Function as a catalyst for change in improving the quality of credit analysis, developing, and implementing strategic goals relating to performance against technical standards.

· Provide technical guidance, support, and challenge to analytical teams.

· Assist in the development of training on existing and/or new criteria applications and provide training to staff as needed.

· Provide insight to staff on criteria changes and solicit feedback on emerging issues.

· Function as liaison between EU/London offices providing comments and concerns on BRM related topics.

External Market Interaction

· Interface with external market constituents (brokers, accounting firms, trade associations, investment bankers, etc.) on topics related to criteria and general insurance industry issues.

· Speak at market events providing perspective on criteria and methodology related topics.

· Create and deliver impactful presentations on views of key insurance credit trends and developments at events and selective external industry conferences.

· Develop a network of contacts in the (re) insurance market with the purpose of developing market intelligence.



Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in the insurance industry.

Skills and Experience

· In addition to having insurance industry experience, candidates with regulatory, compliance, risk management and/or credit rating agency backgrounds will be preferred.

· Strong knowledge of the insurance market and principles of finance and accounting

· Experience with publishing and presenting insurance industry research.

· Strong ability to orally articulate views with market participants

· Experience in developing and managing professional relationships with external stakeholders including issuers, market participants, and regulators.
